A few months ago, I was in a Bible Study on the book of Proverbs. In the study it spoke about how humble people are willing to listen to advice and input. Then take the advice and filter it with the Bible. It reminded me of 1 Peter 5:6-7, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”
Recently, the company I worked for restructured and all management positions were eliminated. We were given other options as a result. I prayed, read the Bible and sought wise counsel. What the company offered “seemed” probably from the outside like a good offer. However, the Lord had a different path for me. I chose to resign from the company. I am so thankful for His guidance and peace that came with choosing to obey Him. I am not saying it has been easy because I have had a period of “mourning” the changes in my work.
On my last day, one of my coworkers told me that I had showed her how to listen and hear God’s voice. She was in a management role like me and we shared with each other as we walked through this transition in the company. She also gave me encouragement as a fellow sister in Christ in the fact that we have no need to worry because God had a plan and we could trust Him. So thankful and humbled to our merciful and gracious Father who saved us and loves us each and every day.
These verses in Romans 15:4-6 sum up the encouragement that carried me through this transition, “For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
